Using freecad in draft mode8/23/2023 From memory the problem was that Mint had a much newer version of some library or libraries which were not fully compatible. Mint is/was derived from Ubuntu but I am always just a bit careful recommending the PPA for it, because they (at least at one time) had enough differences to cause some issues. If that does not work, we'll get you going with your own compile with as little pain as possible.Īgain, sorry if I came off a bit course, it's been one of those days. You can find them here Just configure you system following the directions there and update FreeCAD. You'll find a lot of help here if you decide to compile.įirst, do give the daily builds a try. You only need set up your system once and your good to go. I'm not a developer, and I compile FreeCAD(and/or one of the branches) once or more most every day. Sure there are dependency files to install, but the list is not that long and all install from packages with little effort. If all else fails, building FreeCAD is not that hard at all. They are built for Ubuntu and more than a couple of Mint users have had success with them. The problem comes in when the distro packagers build the package for that distro. Points taken, and apologies for any offence.Īt the time that version of FreeCAD was released, it was, and for the most place is usable. Compiling may be easy for developers who are doing it every day, but in my experience you're going to spend a day or more before you get the dependencies all worked out - and that's if you're lucky. I was hoping to try FC before having to resort to draconian actions like compiling my own version. My assumption was that a major distribution like linux Mint would have a good, working copy of any program it provides in its distribution. And like Jim has advised, update your FreeCAD, much has been fixed and added.Īnd then somebody would have complained that I should have broken them into separate questions. Sense I'm not a big believer in coincidence, I am compelled to ask, are you related to this forum member?Īll of these questions could of been lumped into one post. I then took a few more minuets to fire up my old dusty XP box and look at 0.13 - 1830 and they are there too. It took me a little less than 2 seconds (really, that long) to figure out that there were indeed shortcut keys and what they were. ![]() May I suggest that you spend maybe as much time as you spent making these 4 different posts (so far) actually trying to figure out if your doing something right? I have NEVER used the shortcut keys in draft and until I read your post, never ever thought to look if they were available. L, I will give you the line tool, R, E will give you the rectangle tool. If you look on the Draft Workbench under Draft you will quickly find there - C, I WILL give you the circle tool. It might also help if you actually looked up what keyboard entries make up a shortcut.
